Sorry for the x-post!
Jul. 9th, 2004 10:24 pmMATERIALS NEEDED!

Yourself.

Your tape of choice.

Cutting board, duct tape, x-acto knife.
Of course, you could use scissors and a
tabletop instead. This was a bit easier,
though. Also, I reccommend using red
duct tape (or whatever colour you want
your rose to be)! I have other colours
of duct tape, but wanted a silver one
this time around. Something a little
more masculine for my boy ;]
/end rant

Stick down 3 - 4 strips of duct
tape onto the cutting board.

I started out with three rows. Cut down
all of the strips with your knife, making
each piece of duct tape about a couple
of inches wide.

Hold your first piece of duct tape sticky
side up under terrible lighting situations.

Fold one corner down. On the bottom of your
piece of duct tape, you're going to want to
leave a strip of stickiness so that all of
the leaves will stick together when you're
assembling your rose. Also, I found it to
be somewhat better to have the bottom (the
sticky part) to be the longer side of your
piece of duct tape. If you've got a square
going, then I suppose you're off the hook.

Fold the other side down. Note how the
stickiness strip on the bottom really
isn't even - this doesn't matter, as long
as it's sticky all the way across. What
matters is keeping the top of the triangle
even and straight.

Do this with every piece. Thinking that
they're cute and naming every one is
optional.

Pick up one of your pieces to be the center.
Since you don't see too much of the center,
I chose a piece that was exceptionally bad ;]
You want to just roll this piece up into a little
tube. Except, not hollow. Yeah.

That's the stuff.

Grab up another piece and tape it around
the middle piece. You want to continue
doing this until you are out of pieces.
You'll get the hang of it, I promise. If
you feel like the pieces you put on is crooked
or not placed right, then peel it off and
re-stick it or start over! :] Take into
consideration the top point of each piece,
as you don't want these directly behind
another. Spiral around the rose.

I think I got really ahead of myself with
that last step's explanation, because now
we've backtracked to wrapping the first
piece around the center. Hah, I'm a dweeb ;D

This is my three strip's worth. I decided
to do one more strip. For a full-sized
rose, I probably would have done two more
strips, but this one was done just for a
tutorial for you guys ;]

Four strips' worth. Yup it's really
half-assed, but again, It's just something I
threw together for a tutorial.

For the stem, I just layed down another strip
of tape and cut some skinnier pieces, wrapping
them around each other to form a stem. I had
a bunch of pieces left over, but I used them all
on the stem, making it sturdier.

Finished rose.

My first one, yellow with a green stem and leaves.
Whee.. be sure to post your roses up after you make them!
I want to see! ;]
These are actually really fast to make.
Really fun, too! :]
Hey, you know at some point you're sitting
and watching TV anyway. Be productiveeeee!
Ok bye.
