Need some help with a doll I'm making...
Jul. 10th, 2004 09:46 pmBasically, I'm making a Mad-Eye Moody doll using an approximation of the porcelain doll method: sculpey head, hands and feet attached to a stuffed fabric body.
I made the hard parts already:

(Sorry, haven't finished painting the boot or the peg-leg. Also, I left the top of the head a little short because doll hair tends to be waaaay too high.)
The problem is that I assumed I would be able to walk into a craft store and find grey hair in the doll-making section. AS IF.
So, I'm thinking of trying to make a wig with the following method:
Do I need to bind the edges and fold them under before attaching the hair? Should I use an interfacing? Are repositionable adhesives a bad idea? Is my process completely flawed?
Anyway. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and double thank yous in advance to anyone with suggestions! ^_^

So, I'm thinking of trying to make a wig with the following method:
- Taking a piece of bone-colored tulle, placing it on the head, and then tracing the area I want the hair to go.
- Placing the tulle in an embroidery hoop, and then using a latch-hook method to attach embroidery floss to the tulle. (I can make the teeny hook, so that's covered)
- Seperating the strands of embroidery floss
- Attaching the wig to the head, and then giving the doll its haircut
