Jul. 12th, 2004 06:56 pmI love making my own clothes, so I decided this year I would sew a new school wardrobe rather than buying one. I don't have much done yet, but I'm proud of what I've finished so far. ^^; So proud, in fact, that I'm willing to take the plunge and make my first post here.
I have a taste for over-the-top styles, so when I saw this pattern, I had to try it. When my arms are down, the sleeves are slightly passed my knees. I love how the entire thing swooshes when I walk. There are also straps that wrap across my stomach, which tie into a wonderful bow on the back. The fabric was Halloween fabric that I found on sale. It has skeleton pirates all over it. :)
This top was designed to be born with a full skirt, but I see no reason why it can't be worn by itself. I added boning to the bodice to give it some support. The fabric is purple with black embroidered flowers. (Alas, I didn't do the embroidery. I wish I had though. It's beautiful.) I really liked how this pattern came out, and am considering making a second out of fabric with Chinese characters printed on it. If I do do that, I think I'm going to embroider an oriental flower trim along the edges. Embroidery is another favorite crafty hobby of mine. ^^;
After I finished the top, I couldn't resist making a skirt to go with it. Just in case I need something nice to wear when I go out with my boy. ^^; This skirt was my first attempt at making clothes without a pattern. It's a simple six-panel floor-length skirt. Nothing fancy. The fabric is a soft black material, with flowers similar to the bodice. However, it's not so fancy that it can't be worn everyday with a t-shirt or tank top.
I'm working on a few more things, including a new dress and a pair of pants. I'll post those when I'm done. And hopefully I'll have some non-sewing things to share as well.
(Sorry some of the pictures are a little weird. I hate posing for the camera, plus I'm still trying to figure out the timer on my camera. :P I get a little better at it each time.)
