Stamping on Sculpey

I'm thinking of doing my first altoid sculpey tin and I was wondering about stamping on the clay. Is there any tips to doing this. Is there specific kinds of stamps you should use? I want to make a small ashtray for my boyfriend for when we go camping and I'd like to use a Tigger stamp since its his nickname, but I don't want to ruin the stamp by getting clay in it as I am planning on using it for some other stuff too.
