making a hat..

i started making a hat today, and i'm not sure where to go from here. this is what is made so far:




i started off with the circle and i thought i could make it shaped differently, but that's okay. this shape is good for another hat i wanted to make that is this kind:



kind of like those, just bigger and the crochet is stretchy so i can fit my dreads into it.

so now i have no idea what i am going to make the "bill" part of the hat out of. i think i can take an old baseball hat and cut it off, crochet over it, and attach it.

would that work??

or would a crochet bill part be strong enough on it's own? i like wearing that part at the back so i guess it wouldn't have to stand up...
