For every cat there is a scratching post
Aug. 25th, 2004 12:40 amLysander has recently been doing some scent scratching on the carpet around the door, so I decided to make him a scratching slope. I think that you can get slopes like it in the US, but over here it is just vertical sisal covered posts or nothing.
I made it out of two very large and thick boxes, sticking the pieces together with child-safe glue and brown parcel tape and sprinkled some catnip over the top to provide a little incentive. It was much easier than I had imagined and works really well. Lysander watched me while I was making it, and as you can see he was thrilled with the result and tried it out before I could tidy up :) Since then he has been scratching away on the slope and not on the carpet. It moved about a bit on the carpet, so I used some of fabric double sided tape that is used to stop rugs from slipping and now he can scratch and scritch as much as his little heart desires without it moving.
