Big Bass

Some of you might remember a little while back, I posted about some trouble I was having with acrylic water and a fish sculpture. I am happy to say the problem was finally solved!






A large mouth bass display.

Made as a gift for my grandfather, who loves fishing and taught me how to really fish.

I sculpted the bass itself and the stumpy log it lays against out of super sculpey. I then baked the piece and painted it with acrylic based paints. I wanted more than just a stand alone sculpture, and the idea struck me to try and put this fish in water.

I did this by finding a large enough circular glass bowl, filling it with rocks for texture and form, and added a good amount of acrylic water. I was very worried about this piece, as I didn't get the mixture quite right the first time around with the acrylic water. I had to mix another batch and add a very thin layer to the top to finish it off. It finally dried firm, and I was happy.

I added to the piece some small sculpted blades of grass/water plants. I also ran a very small fishing lure through the lip of the bass, attatched to some fishing line, and ran it straight, managing to firm it into place with a bit of the acrylic water settling on it the right way.
