blue chocolates?

question -

has anyone here ever made chocolates?

a woman i work with is getting married, and we're having a little celebration on the last day that she works before the wedding. i'm making cupcakes, and i want to decorate them in her wedding colours.

my plan was to make blue chocolate hearts to put in the middle, then sprinkle those little silver balls around them, because her colours are cobalt blue (which i can't even picture, but i was told it's kinda like royal blue, so i'm going with that) and silver.

i've made chocolates before, using the little discs you can buy, and today i bought the heart molds, but i've never tried to dye/tint the chocolate before. is that possible? i saw choclate/candy dye at micheals, but it was kind of pricey, i don't think i'll need that much, and i will never use it again. can i use food colouring instead? will that work?

if not, i suppose i could make white hearts and mix blue food colouring into the icing instead, but i really wanted to make blue hearts!

and just so that this isn't text only - a picture of the cupcakes i made last time i took them into work (they're really the only thing i'm capable of cooking, with cake mix and icing in a can.)
