glitter sealant for clothing?

i have this shirt that i recently bought and its got letters written in glitter on the front.. the only problem is that since the glitter is being held on just by glue of some sort, everytime i move, the glitter comes off. i was thinking of covering the glitter with a coating of something that will protect it, even in the wash. i haven't washed the shirt yet in case it ruins the shirt!

any suggestions?
