So I'm normally the type of person who likes to stencil t-shirts and bags or make marble magnets. But I decided that I need to branch out in the world of crafting, so I was determined to start knitting and sewing.

Well, sewing hasn't really happened yet, but I've started knitting! I know that this isn't terribly intricate or amazing, but I figured I'd post my first scarf (completed today).

On the left, you see what it looks like right-side up. On the right, wrong-side up.

Dangling around my neck.

It's about 4 feet long and 5.5 inches wide. I used Lions Brand Homespun yarn, which can be really annoying to knit with, but I got used to it and it became a lot easier as I went along. I used size 10 needles for the project... it's a slight variation of the Go Go Garter Stitch Scarf in Stitch and Bitch, but I couldn't find yarn that was well-suited for size 17 needles.

Anyway, this was fun. I might make a couple of other scarves (probably still using acrylic yarn) - either to give to people or for myself. I need to learn a LOT more though - purling, etc. When I start feeling more confident, I will definitely start using wool and cotton. Yarn is insanely expensive sometimes and not good for my poor college student budget. :-( But I've enjoyed this first time knitting and it seems like a great way to express yourself and make something useful.
