Sep. 15th, 2004 11:33 pmi bought a skein of bernat galaxy yarn in "mars" at michaels for $2.50 (yay for 50% off coupons!). i just noticed it is only 1.75 ounces (50 grams).
originally i was going to knit up a scarf for practice. i started a few rows and am having no trouble at all (and surprisingly, because i am not that good at knitting, and this yarn is fluffyyyy). however, i doubted if it would be enough yarn for a scarf. so i took apart the few rows i started, measured how much yarn i had used to make about 3 inches, and it turns out i used about 180" of yarn. if i did my math correctly, and i already threw away my paper so i don't recall the exact amount, but that means i will only be able to knit up about 30" worth of a scarf, which is definitely not long enough. this was with 12 or 13 stitches cast on. even if i make it a skinny scarf, it'll only be 60" or so, and very skinny, so i don't think that is a good idea.
or is it?
would 1.75 ounces be enough for a scarf? or should i attempt a different project with this yarn? if someone has a good pattern (knitting, not crochet) for a scarf that doesn't use a lot of yarn, that'd be great. thanks thanks a bunch.
