Donation Hat
Oct. 17th, 2004 01:19 amIf anyone remembers that far back, I posted earlier this year about hats and animals I'm making for donations to my local hospital's children's ward. I finished a Donation Hat during my lunch at work on thursday and have since started and finished another one this evening. I'm hoping to complete at least 10 more hats (if I have enough yarn) before christmas. Though, it should be more than that if I can keep up a 2-hat-per-week pace.
I used this post-stitch pattern, as posted earlier, as the basis, but didn't like the effect that rows 16-20 were supposed to make with the fp and dc stitches alternating. Maybe it's because I used an "I" hook rather than the recommended "G", so the spacing of my stitches was much larger than called. But, that's one of the alterations I made (the other was that I skipped from row 10 to row 14 as the hat was already long enough for my head, and it's supposed to be for a kid!). Besides, I don't have a "G" hook and I couldn't find either of the two "H"'s that I have (though, honestly, I didn't look past my crochet-hook holder).
I used a denim colored acrylic to start the hat off and alternated it with Lily's Sugar'n'Cream line in the "faded denim ombre" yarn, every 2 rows. It worked up quite nicely, with only 7 or so weave-in ends to fiddle with, and took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. I do believe it'll take considerably less time since I won't be figuring out how I should alter the pattern to suit my needs everytime I sit down to work another.
If anyone was curious, I'm still accepting donations of whatever you have for these hats and animals I'm making. I think I'll take a break from the hats tomorrow and work up some squares for animals. I've got loads of polyfill that needs to be used and stuffed animals are the best way to use it up. It's just keeping a healthy supply of yarn around that's a pain in the butt. :)
And for those curious as to how the hat came out:
