dying question for my halloween costume!!

craftgrrlok ok so I've been looking for a black and white striped shirt for halloween cuz ima be a bumble bee so I need to dye the white parts yellow. I bought 
sweet shirt on sale today (from $44.99 to $6) and It's 85% acrylic 15% spandex. My question is, what would be the best way to dye the white stripes? watered down fabric paint? coloring with yellow sharpie? also, will this be very warm? cuz im gonna be inside most of the night for the halloween party. so will i die?
I could also take my moms idea and just take a black shirt and tape off stripes and use fabric paint. but I dont know how well that would work. I need this by friday, so I really only have tomorrow to work on this :/
ps - I have a craft I did for my mommy's bday tonight and i'll post those pics later on. BE EXCITED! :D
