Crochet Bikini For Laying On The Beach
Oct. 28th, 2004 06:36 amThe other day I came across a bikini that a friend had bought at a surf shop. I wanted to make my own, so I searched everywhere for a pattern close enough to hers. I couldn't find anything, so I ended up making up my own pattern just off of the top of my head. I figured I'd TRY to post it for anyone who wants to make a bikini in the future. (And no you cannot swim in this... it would sag and fall apart. It's just for pool side wear.)

My crappy first attempt at making a pattern. Sorry if it's hard to understand.
Worsted weight yarn
Size F hook
BOTTOM/PANTIES
Ch about 30 (more or less depending on your size and how you want it to look) starting at the top of the front of the bikini. hdc across. turn. i continued with the hdc decreasing almost every row at begining and end of them. (to give it that triangular look). decrease as much as needed until you get to the crotch area... then do a few rows without decreasing to make the crotch. then start increasing on almost every row at the begining and end of them until you reach the width/hight of the back.
Sc with contrasting color across each side. (i just joined the contrasting color to the end of the last row, turned and sc across and around.) At each corner ch 50 (more or less depending on how long you want/need the strings). Sc back down ch and continue sc around to next corner and so on. end off.
TOP/BRA
Ch 12 (add a few more or remove a few depending on cup size). hdc in second ch from hook and across. ch 1 and turn. hdc across. hdc 5 times in last hdc. continue hdc across original ch. turn ch 1 hdc around. ch 1. turn. hdc to top (middle of 5 hdc from previous row) 3 hdc , then continue with hdc around. turn ch 1 hdc around. ch 1. turn. hdc to top (middle of 3 hdc from previous row) 3 hdc , then continue with hdc around. repeat last row as many times as needed to reach cup size.
Sc with contrasting color across each side. (i just joined the contrasting color to the end of the last row, turned and sc around.) At top/middle (3 hdc) ch 62 (more or less depending on how long you want/need the strings). Sc back down ch and continue sc around and across bottom. turn. sc back across ONLY THE BOTTOM. end off.
for the strap around body, sc ch as long as you need it (i didn't count, just measured long enough to fit around my body and tie). turn. sc in 2nd ch from hook and all the way across. end off. then weave the strap through the two rows of SC in the cups.
