Nov. 10th, 2004 10:04 pmSo here's a sewing tip my mama never taught me:
Topstitching a patch pocket means pinning it in place, and sometimes the pins create lumps and bumps and other nuisances. Same with zippers - to make sure you catch everything in a nice straight seam, you have to baste the darn thing in place before you sew it, but those days are over...
Recently I put a zipper in a skirt, and a patch pocket on a kids jumper without using pins or basting - I used a fabric gluestick and GLUED the pocket and zipper where I would have pinned or basted. The glue is water soluble. This means no lumps created by pins, no tedious basting by hand, and all that goo comes out in the first laundering. VOILA. Found it in the quilting supplies. Now I'm gonna feel like a dork if y'all already knew about this little miracle-worker - I've been sewing forever and I had no idea!!
