I've started a community called better_beads. It's a bit of an offshoot of ethicalcrafters, but for beaders specifically. So if you love beads, please hop on over! :)

As described in this article, the beading industry has a lot of problems. (Like most other industries, really. But still.) I have started better_beads in the hope that we can find more sources for fair trade beads and jewelry-making supplies, and so that we can make our cause known to the "big guys." Maybe we can help out the beadmakers by doing our part to ensure that fair trade becomes closer to the norm. Very idealistic, I know, but why not? :)
