Beaded Earrings

I looked in the memories and I couldn't find this, but here's my question:

Is it possible to buy real gold hooks (like the part that goes in your ear) for earrings? If so, where can I get them? I ask this because I've tried wearing sterling silver, but irritated my ear lobe and any jewelry with nickel/iron in it...I guess you could say the cheaper hooks...make my holes fill with green stuff as if it's an allegeric reaction. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I would like quality hooks.

Also, what would be the best beads to buy for beginner earrings? I'd like to try to make earrings, but sadly I have no idea where to start or what to use.
