Holiday Potpourri Idea
Dec. 1st, 2004 09:30 amOk- this is not MY idea (disclaimer). For some reason, I was up at 3AM last night and happened to catch "Crafters Coast to Coast" on HGTV (www.hgtv.com). They had all these awesome looking projects, but there was one easy- looking one in particular that I wanted to try...see below...props to Kathy, the busy executive, whose idea this really is...
Holiday Potpourri
Materials:
cheesecloth
red fabric dye (when I watched last night, I thought she used red food coloring. Dunno if this would come off when boiling the potpourri though?)
orange peel
lemon peel
ginger
allspice
cinnamon sticks
***Secret Ingredient- Juniper berries***
twine
scissors
oven
gift card
Steps:
1. Cut cheesecloth into 6-inch squares.
2. Dye the white cloth red.
3. Peel orange, lemon, ginger, and dry overnight or dry in the oven.
4. Place allspice, cinnamon and dried peel (and juniper berries!!!) in the middle of the cheesecloth.
5. Tie with twine and add a little gift card.
This potpourri can be placed in hot water to give off a holiday aroma. Note: It's not meant to drink.
It looked really, really easy and I bet it smells great. Might be good as a little gift embellishment or possible as a stocking stuffer? Enjoy!
