Every year a few friends of mine throw a "white elephant*" Christmas party with a "creative formal" dress code, which is fun because we all love being creative, right? Want to see the accessories a friend and I made for our outfits?
For my outfit, I decided to go for a "20's noir" type theme. I made all of my accessories except for the black wrap, red-and-black crystal necklace, and my shoes (yay for Payless!):

This hat was my favorite accessory. It's got two fabric flowers, red beading, and a design made from scraps left over from another project. I added a snap-on strap so that I wouldn't have to pin it onto my oversized cranium. The flowers are made from the overlay of the dress I wore to last year's party (some sort of faux pas, I'm sure, but no one even noticed).

The gloves are made from the same fabric as the flowers on the hat. They're really more red than in this picture--the color of the camera bag is most representative of the sassy red of the fabric. The little black flowers are velvet with glitter stuck to it--I painted my fingernails red with gray/black glitter polish on top to match.

Everyone else's favorite accessory of mine: the "yes-I-made-it-in-a-half-hour" camera bag. My usual khaki-colored, waterproof camera bag wasn't going to match, so I made a strappy little bag to haul my favorite toy around in. The bow and strap are black satin ribbon that our hostess had lying around in her office.

A picture of the shoes, just because they were REALLY cute. This outfit was screaming with flowers, seems like. Heh.

The full outfit--the lighting is terrible, but it all turned out really well. Yay!
My friend, Leia, went for a more "rock/punk" look with her outfit. She wanted a wrap to go with the dress that she had fabric spray-painted a distressed gray, but didn't want it to be the same old thing everyone else was wearing, so we picked out some thick, black faux fur at the local Joann's and went nuts:

I cut and sewed it together (with lining), and she sprayed the glitter. It was her idea to make it crazy long, which ended up looking pretty awesome. This is a pic of the wrap, pre-glitter, to give you an idea of the length.

Our test strip--we decided that this was too much glitter and planned to use half as much on the real deal. (I wish I had grabbed this piece when I left though--it would have made one fabulous wristband. Grr.)

Spray spray spray. Attempt breathing. Make sure you do this part outside, because that aerosol stuff will knock you straight on your ass. It took HOURS for that smell to dissipate from the porch where she sprayed the test strip.

Just sparkly enough, woo! And spray glitter is cool because it doesn't hardly fall off at all and leave loads of glitter all over the house.

Leia, in her full attire. The wrap doesn't look so glittery here, but trust us, it was. She was a big, big hit!
*I ended up with a big, inflatable pickle for my present. That pickle is SO RAD.
