My New Year's resolution is to be more creative and crafty, and in light of that, I present my first true knitting projects: a (happy) skinny scarf and a (very sad) hat.

The scarf was my first project: I used simple stockenette (and I didn't correct the curling because, well, I actually like it), and made it about five and a half feet long (a good length for short me). I don't think I joined the colors the correct way, but it's not really noticeable. I didn't expect my first knitting project to be something I'd actually wear, but I'm really happy with how it came out.
And as for the sad hat: well, I'm being a little mean to it, I suppose. It's not *that* sad--a bit misshapen, perhaps. The biggest problem is that, although I followed Bev's Basic Hat Pattern for adult heads, the hat came out huge. I mean, I have a small head, but this hat would fit a yeti. It was good practice, though, and now I know that I apparently have a 10-to-13-year-old-sized head.
My next knitting projects will be another (hopefully correctly-sized) hat and a blanket as a Valentine's gift for my boyfriend. I'm also working on a clutch purse / pencil case, and my very first altered book (which I suspect will take me until next New Year's). Perhaps this will help ward off my cabin fever until I head back to college.

knitting--I just had to share my first true accomplishment here as well. :^)
