Sewing moron desparately needs help...

I want to finish off the edges of a pencil case I'm making with thick cross-stitching thread. This iPod case uses the stitch I'd like to use. I've spent the last hour and a half searching LJ and the internet for instructions, but since I have no clue what this type of stitch is called, my search has been in vain. Can someone please tell me the name of this stitch and how to do it (or a link to a tutorial on it)?
