ahhh i need help!

i sewed a zipper onto a skirt but the zipper was a little too long so i cut it and sewed the top of it so that the actual metal part that zips up and down would not come off but somehow it came undone and the little metal thing slid off! ive been trying to get it back on for the past fifteen minutes and it hasnt been working. is it even possible? can anyone help me? please??\
