Feb. 22nd, 2005 01:01 pmI dyed my hair with koolaid.
It is most awesome.
I mixed a couple packs of orange crystals with 40-volume creme developer (which i've used in the past with powder bleach to lighten my hair), and it worked fabulously... it doesn't look lame or skanky at all, and it was so cheap, and it's permanent to boot!
So maybe it was a little foolhardy to mix together two chemicals when I was unsure of how they would react and expect that my head wouldn't melt... but it does say on the bottle that it "replaces liquid peroxide for bleaching, lightening, and tinting" and that it "conditions hair and provides superior hair colouring results with all oxidation colourings".... and I did do a test swatch first to check, and tried to research it on the internet, i just couldn't find anything unambiguous that would tell me what developer IS... ha.
In any case, as a hair colour junky, I have to say that I'm actually very impressed with the results. In my experience commercial dyes like loreal or clairol or whatever never are bright enough, and the bright dyes like punky colour or manic panic always fade do quickly, and require bleaching your hair first. This didn't - my natural brown roots are just as orangy great as the lighter tips. I'm sorry I don't have a digital camera so i could post the results, but it looks great.
This was very easy (just mix the crystals into the developer well to dissolve and proceed as usual), produced a great bright, even colour, smells fruity, and was so cheap! $.40 for the koolaid and around 3$ for the developer, of which i only used a third of the bottle or so...!
Can I say how excited I am to try other colours?!
