[identity profile] take-apart.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
Hello! I was browsing through here a little bit last night and thought that it's a great community :)
I noticed [livejournal.com profile] j9crafts's post with the Altoids tin, and thought that maybe she got it from Bust magazine, as I did. Apparently she did not ;p

Either way, here it is. The present that I made for my boyfriend last Christmas :)

I got this idea from Bust magazine. You take an Altoids tin and set it on the burner for a couple minutes and it gets charred, giving it that vintage look :) Then you take tin snips and cut out a heart (which was a bitch, btw).. then I added some red beads, they showed pink. I wanted this to be more romantic :)

This is the front, again. You can't tell as much, but I scratched a heart into it and put a half marble on top to magnify it.

Another view of the front, and the back. The back crackled, which was neato.

The front inside. I found this great set of buttons, etc. at the craftstore. So I added the cherub buttons and roses, more beads, and a mini-picture of me with another half marble to magnify it. And the movie stub from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is on the bottom right. The right on the white paper says, "mon couer est vĂ´tre" which means "my heart is yours." Or, so, it should mean that. LOL.. I don't speak French, but I looked it up.. so hopefully the online translator didn't lie ;p The other paper on the left says "always"

A closer view of all of the above...

open love. yay.

The main part of the inside. 2 more mini-pictures of me with the half marbles again. And awhile ago I got this neat card-making kit that came w/ those pretty hearts. One is paper with red glitter all over it, making it hard. The other is kind of an ivory type material with a red wire heart. The kit also came w/ those red sequins and white faux pearls.

On the bottom they suggest you add something with pictures of you, etc. I thought this was a great idea. So, I used some of my pretty patterned paper and folded it acordian-style and tied it down with a bow, as you can see in one of the above pictures.

Closer view of the accordian-styled 'photo album' :)

The pictures! About 6 of us taken throughout the 2 years we've been together. Cute kissy pictures, sleepy pictures, and more cute kissy pictures :)

As I said, I spent forever on this thing and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. These low-quality pictures really don't do it justice. But I don't think a better camera would, either :)
