helloooo fellow crafters!

working on a 21st birthday present for my boy who lives very far away, and i have the idea, but i need help with one last bit...

i'm going to make him a wooden box which i have collaged and cut a heart out of the top of, which i am filling with pretty scraps of paper that all have a different reason why i love him on them. now, this is a very impatient boy, so i know that, although the idea is, he reads one every day, he will actually read many a day and maybe a whole bunch at once when he first gets them. so i wanted to give him something to go along with the box, where he could put the pieces of paper onto something else, like a collage or bulletin board, but pretty looking, so that way, he can still add one each day until we see each other again, although he might have read them already.

but! i don't know what this magical larger object for sticking paper onto should be. not corkboard, it isn't pretty enough. i thought of one of those cloth ribbon boards, but i'm worried the strips of paper are too small and will fall through. any ideas, suggestions? nothing is too fanciful- this is a big birthday and i love him very much. i want to make it spectacular!!
