knitting

okay. i want to start knitting and have looked at a bunch of tutorials already.
my only problem is that i'm not sure which style to use.
continental? english?
which style is more common? more versatile?
also, i'm left-handed... will that make a difference?

i'm afraid of starting myself off with bad habits.
