Badge Factory hints/help sought

I purchased this wondrous machine a few years ago (check it out!)
http://store.yahoo.com/creativekidstuff/badgefactory.html
I am looking for anyone who also has this machine and has dealt with its suckitude ratio.
For example For every 100% solid, kickin' button/pin I turn out - I also turn out 5 that wholly bite. My current greatitude ratio then is 1 of 6. That is almost not worth my time - also it is a waste of my precious supplies.
The machine isn't complicated - it is after all built for children - but it is super cheap and was a good way to get some buttons made without spending much. Until now, I have felt the machine was useful. Until now, I thought my awesomeitude ratio was in the 1 of 2 range or the 1 out of 3 or 4 range.
Anyone have any hints for using this? If you haven't used the machine, or don't know what it is - read the description - but, no offense, you probably can't help me.
I am hesitant to recommend this "toy" at this point , so don't go like buying it all up and stuff - but I have gotten some good things out of it.
Peace out!
Thanks in advance!
