Jun. 3rd, 2005 01:14 amSo the wool dying process is over.
Sorta
Now it is drying in my bathtub. I hope to start on Sunday with it.
This stuff turned out a little different because I dyed two skeins at once and did it on the stove instead of the microwave.
My mom thought it was cool.
I wanted to make it rainbow-like...and totally remembered 7 colors to the rainbow...but then...when I was dyeing my purple, I realized I only had 6 colors and had to invent one..lol
I also discovered my camera has zoom.
You learn something new everyday...huh
I have decided to start naming stuff after the reason I make it.
So this yarn....will be called.... Khylie's Birthday...
Pictures behind the cut peoples....lots
I am posting pictures of the process...just for the hell of it and because I took them and because I can.
This is how it all started. I was rereading about the wool and Juicey decided to help me.

I then took the wool and wrapped it around chairs.
I used these ones because they have the tops that make it so the wool won't slide off...annnnnd I used baked bean cans and a fruit salad can to hold the chairs down. Easiest way to wind yarn I say.

Then...Mr. DivaKatt himself had to come into the picture. He didn't touch the yarn this time, just laid off to the side staring at me and twitching his tail.
I was trying to give him love in this picture and he wasn't having it.
"whateva"..he says

Then I took cheap acrylic yarn and loosely tied the sections off so that I could know where to dye each color and also it helps keep the yarn together so it doesn't knot up.

I then had to prepare the kool-aid.
somewhere down the line my rockin' math skills thought 6=7....hence...having 7 sections and only 6 different flavors of kool-aid

Then I prepared my drink for the evening.
This is the best stuff ever. It is super hard for me to find and I swear I screamed when I saw it in the grocery store. Slap that baby over ice and I am in heaven. A proper drink is important in the dying process...

This is how the green started out. See how I need to stir it better?

This is it while cooking

This is the color of the water when done cooking

This is my purple. I really like the way this turned out because it is all different shades of purple..the final product

This is the color I made up. I used a little blue...a yellow packet and a red packet.
I was aiming for pink.
I think I missed baaaaadly

This is each of the 7 colors in a plastic grocery bag. After I dyed each color, I put it in those so I could tie it up and put them all in a bowl and not have to worry about the colors running. Works perfectly

This is when I discovered my camera had zoom. Seems exciting eh? No not really when you look at how long I have had the camera....lol....and I just now figure that out.

Here is the finished product.
will be sure to post even more kickin' pictures of the wook wound up into a ball and of when the project is finished
