manly bag?

Hey gals...

Because I'm finally at the stage of recovery where I can concentrate enough to make stuff, I want to make my boy a cute bag. I was wondering if there were any bag tutorials/patterns or even just pics that are manly bags...All I can find is the classic messenger bag, but it's kind of boring. I am going to cross sttich/embroider some stuff on it, so maybe a messenger bag would be ok? Also, I want to put pockets in it, but have never attempted to do so...any pointers?
