Let's say...I wanted to attempt to make shoes like those above. What would I make the bottom out of?

And. The little loops where the ribbons go through, I was thinking of piercing a whole through the bottom of the sandal, gluing a button to one side so it'd stay (like normal thong sandals). You think that'd work?
