hi, my name is alicia, and i'm a craftgrrlaholic.
i've been lurking this community for a few months now, but never had anything to post till today.

i bought my very first sewing machine two weeks ago. (i say that like i intend to buy more, which i don't, at this point). i'd never used a sewing machine before, only ever hand sewed, and even then, not many times.

i probably should have started with a pillow, or pouch or something. but instead, i made some pyjama pants.

i cut the pattern out for a size "small" but they're pretty enormous. my mother did mention that most pattern sizes run pretty big.

i used a sort of teal green satin, which was probably a bad idea to start off with because it was slippery and generally difficult to manage. the pictures don't show the colour very well, it's more like this:

i did need my mother's help a fair bit at first (she's been sewing her whole life), but considering it was my first project i think they turned out pretty well. i only have three big-ish mistakes, one being that i cut the elastic waist band a little too long, which has made them a tiny bit loose around my hips. the other two were actual sewing mistakes:

but i'll just wear those parts to the back.

i've got another very small project lined up to do this evening, it's just some embelishment on a tank top. i'll post that later. then i've got to make two more pairs of pants, one for my sister and one for the boyfriend. after that i'd like to make a matching pyjama top for myself out of some black satin i found in a remnants bin for a dollar.

:)
