Cutting T-shirt neckline

Just got a new Ramones T and want to cut the collar out but it has that funky thick seam inside the neck line that makes the hole too big and misshapen. Anybody have any expierence with this problem? And,yes, I looked through EVERYTHING and found nothing that even remotely refers to this problem.
