Fabric Dye.

craftgrrlI was hoping someone could recommend a good [inexpensive] dye to use?
I don't have any experience with dying fabric, but I have a track jacket [95% cotton/5% spandex]I was given as a gift that is a horrible light aqua color that I would like to dye a navy blue.
Also, there are bands down each side that are white, aqua, dark turquoise and black striped. would those areas take to the dye any differently?
Would it be easier to dye it a diefferent color than navy blue?
[unfortunately I don't have a digital camera so I don't have any pictures of the jacket.]
