Tiered Skirt & Screened Shirt
Aug. 21st, 2005 09:51 pmI have not posted anything in so long I am finally forcing myself to share some pics!

Reddish brown corduroy tiers ~ The dots on the right are appliques trimmed in black. They are based on the fabric you can see trimming the pocket.
I made/started this skirt a few months ago ~ but since I am used to making tiers out of much thinner cottons, I gathered way too much of the corduroy & the skirt poofed out like a tutu from mid-thigh... not very pretty. I had put a lot of work in finishing everything off very well, so it much bigger pain that normal to rip out all of the seams & re-do the tiers.
When I finally sat down & did it, I still wasn't quite comfortable with the fact that I couldn't feel the fabric against my legs ~ I don't wear short skirts too often & didn't want it sticking up in the back or something without me noticing. So, I added in a tier of thin black cotton on the underside to fill in the open area ~ I love the extra bit of black as well!
(Don't mind the stupid face)

This shirt was screenprinted with three fern leaves in different shades of green. (It was inspired by a shirt I saw online but I don't know remember the site) The printing turned out just like I wanted it, but I now an not so sure about the actual shirt ~ I just feel kind of dumpy in it (best word I could think of). I am thinking of changing the neckline or doing something with the sleeves, but am not all that comfortable working with stretchy fabrics ~ any ideas or suggestions? Also, it is a bit hard to match to any of my pants because I have a lot of similar shades of cords & do not want so much of the same color (like the pair in the pic), so I was considering dying it dark blue or brown, which would not dye the leaves. I don't know if it would work though because of how dark the last leaf is.
