Table Mat Purse Tutorial
Sep. 6th, 2005 12:21 amOkay, here a quick and dirty tutorial for that place mat purse I did
Please forgive me as this is the first time I've attempted a tutorial. Also, I don't have PSP loaded as my harddrive died a few weeks back and I've not reinstalled it ...
Start with a placemat and some other items:

First, fold the table mat in half and sew up the sides. The bottom is now the middle. Only sew up the sides.
(red indicates sewing up sides).

Here I show an actual place mat purse with the sides sewn up

After sewing up sides, make a bottom where the middle of the table cloth is, and it will form little triangles on the side (most of you who've made purses know what I'm saying here). Sew where the red as shown below.

Also
The above shows you what the inside looks like on the bottom. All you do is pull the middle to the side (in as much as what you want the bottom width to be), and sew across.
You can do several things from here ... One time I did this, I just sewed straps on the top and velco it to hold it together. You can put grommels in to place ribbon or even cording through it. Decorate it anyway you want :D
Here is the finished product:

Now, you can place TWO placemats together and make a larger purse. To do that, put the placemats together facing each other ... sew up the sides and the bottom, the to make the bottom lay flat, do step #2 as shown above.
That's how I made this purse:

Hope this helps :D If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them.
