Yarn?

Help! Okay so I am new to knitting, I have been teaching myself over the last couple of weeks with one of those "I Taught Myself Knitting" books. There is a really simple pattern in the book for a scarf that I want to make as my first real project. It says to use bulky weight yarn. I went to Michaels today after work and the only bulky weight yarn I could find were horrid pastels. They only had about 4 or 5 colors from what I could find. Am I just missing it? Where do you buy your bulky weight yarn? What kind of yarn do you recommend?

These are a couple of pillows I made... so simple.





This is my first attempt at ever making a bag. I made it from what I had on hand, so nothing fancy. The outside is a piece from a crazy quilt that my mother started and never finished. She gave me her squares so I could use them for projects.

and the inside...I was pretty excited about the pocket, it's the perfect size for my scissors and knitting needles.
