wht fabric to use for a jacket ?

I've like 5 japanese magazines with awesome life size patterns [and some that you have to draw youself ] for making everything from bags to jackets. I really want to make a white high collar jacket / top to wear , since i've the pattern for it but I've no idea what fabric to use. It can't be too warm , since I'm staying in singapore where it's hot all the time. And it must to feel too stiff like formal jackets but still look stiff enough. I can't read japanese so I had no idea whether they had recommended what material to use. Someone help me out? Thanks!
