For sale by owner
Nov. 14th, 2005 08:55 pmI know this community has a strict "no selling" post, but I've read the rules once, and then I read them twice and then I decided this post can be deleted if it causes a stir.
Anyway.
So, in the real world, i am a web designer. Good times had by all, I assure you. I also am rather crafty and have been looking for a place to sell my good. I'm not seeing any options that really appeal. I don't have enough stuff to set up a site all to my lonesome, ebay sucks ass, consignment shops suck.... Etc.
Question of the day:
If I were to set up an online shop, where you could sell your goods for a small fee, would you? Or, conversely, does such a place already exist that I haven't found.
I'm thinking something along the lines of:
you set up a profile which allows you to-
upload photos/prices of the goods
keep a running log of question/answers about your merchandise
be commitioned to do pieces (for example - "can you make me this hat in red?" or "I want that purse only without the huge ugly button")
allows customers to rate the quality of your work
orders come to me, who send them to you, you ship the goods to the customer, who pays me, who takes a taste of that sweet, sweet dough to help cover expenses, and sends you your cut after confirming the customer has received their product. Probably all through PayPal. I imagine the pay system will be similar to eBay, only no cost for posting. mostly because costs for posting piss me off.
Right. Anyway. Should I get this up and running, I'd probably take on x amount of merchants without taking a cut, in exchange for building a solid inventory and their patience with working out any tech problems.
So.... should I go through the trouble of coding this?
