craftgrrlOkay, so, I have big ambitions. Big ambitions indeed. So, my plan is to make myself a really awesome pullover (no zipper!) hoodie with a v-neck in a cool color with a design on it that I can get a lot of wear out of. A tall order, apparently. I figured out how to buy a cheap plain pullover hoodie (something like seven bucks from www.blankshirtstore.com). But of course the neckline is the typical high up crossed in front slightly (from the hood? Does anyone know what I mean? I will maybe put up a picture demonstrating later), so first question: would this look okay if I cut out a v-neck? Or would that be too difficult to do? This is the sweatshirt I am getting probably.
Second question! None of the colors are any good. I want either a teal or, more likely, a burgundy. So what would be the best thing to dye with? I looked through the memories, and RIT dye got some bad-mouthing and the RIT site says results will be bad with anything with fifty percent or more polyster (and the hoodie is 50-50 cotton-polyester). Someone mentioned Procion dye, so I looked into that, and it seems pretty good, but does anyone know if this will work well on the 50-50 blend? And also, is it usually available at craft stores? And tips on how to use it? If anyone has any better ideas for dying, I am all ears. (Also: note to self moreso than to anyone else, remember to do a white vinegar wash after following all dye instructions to color-fast the dye.)
Lastly! Any ideas for what sort of designs to put on the hoodie? I'd like to cross-stitch something on, but I'm not sure how well that'd work with that kind of fabric. So maybe I could stencil something? Or sew something cut from other fabric? I'm really not sure. I kind of want something really simple but cute, along the lines of, I don't know, a bird or a heart or some typical image like that only less typical . . . Yeah, this isn't exactly top priority, I figure I can always come up with something.
