Nov. 28th, 2005 10:18 amSo, I've been playing, and finally finishing some projects from my smocking convention that I went to in September.
Sorry, the pictures (esp. lighting) suck, but with the lovely inversion, I can't get much better.
Anyway, first, I took a class to learn thread painting. It's pretty cool, it just takes forever, and looks a lot like machine embroidery.
We made a little tea towel with a clown fish. Here's mine (almost finished):

Second project was a drawn-threadwork bag. You pull the threads out of the linen, and then work some different stitches and knots and wraps over the remaining fibers. Also pretty cool, but hugely time consuming. That, and working with white on white is enough to drive anyone insane!!
Here's the full bag (I still need to sew up the sides and weave the ribbon into the top:

And here are some closeups of the work (don't look too close!):

Here's the border that the ribbon will weave through:

And a close up of the knot work in the middle of the bag:
