2 sets of practice fairy wings (NOW WITH TUTORIAL)

I'm trying to make cellophane wings, again. My last pair turned out pretty awful. These ones are only a few inches tall.









Ok, some people wanted to know how to make them so here it is:

You'll need:
*cellophane
*wire (I use 14 gauge wire from OSH or Home Depot for human sized wings, something a lot thinner and softer would be better suited for doll sized wings)
*wire cutters
*paper
*pen/pencil
*glue (I used a hot glue gun because it dries fast and clear)
*lighter
*incense


Step 1: crumple up your cellophane and then flatten it back out.


This gives it that pretty wing texture and makes your wings change colors nicely when the light hits them.


Step 2: cut off a length of wire and bend it into a frame.

Step 3: sketch out a pattern for your wings (don't forget to leave room to fold over the edges) and cut that out.




Step 4: use that pattern to cut out your cellophane.


Step 5: place your wire on top of your cellophane and start gluing. It's best to do small sections at a time.


Step 6: glue, fold over cellophane, press down, repeat until you have it all done.




Now time for decoration...
Step 7: I felt that the edges have a too perfect/unatural look to them so I carefully melt that edge by holding a lighter close to it. Make sure not to let them actually catch on fire because you'll quickly have no wing left (can you tell that I speak form experience?).


Step 8: A stick of incense is perfect for controlled holes. You just poke the wings for small holes or move it in a circle for larger holes. If you don't have incense you can create holes by holding your lighter under them but the holes will be bigger and far less controlled.


Now, all you have to do is repeat all that for the other side.




This is closer to what they really look like, the flash makes them look far too pink.
