okay, I made a post yesterday.
And I've decided that I want to make a blanket.
I saw this fabric that was perfect (it's 100% cotton black and white musical scores/notes!) so I bought 2 yds of it.

The only thing is I only have a vague idea about how to go about doing this.
The memories only have things on quilting...but I don't really want to make a quilt.
More of using the cotton fabric and maybe fleece or something else fuzzy and warm on the underside with batting and some sort of trim.
Like, can I sew the batting between the two fabrics and then sew like...squares on it just to keep it in place? Will it stay in place if I don't sew across it but rather just around the edges? I feel like it will bunch up or something. And then just add trim around it.

Am I thinking about this totally wrong?
Is there a tutorial anywhere for something like this?
I'm a pretty decent sewer, so that's not the problem.
It's for my boyfriend for Christmas so I'm just a little apprehensive about messing up and whatnot.

I know this post is kind of similar to my last one, so a little redundant, but now I have a specific request/question and you guys were really helpful yesterday so I thought with a more focused question, you'd be even more helpful! =]
