Trees and a Penguin!
Dec. 6th, 2005 08:48 pmI am a member of a monthly craft club and we just had our Christmas party. Every year, I make a gift for the person whose name I drew and then I make little gifts for all the other members.
I glazed the little igloo with a Danish Milk glass, I wanted to put Mother of pearl on top and have it refired, but was pressed for time. Then, I painted the little penguin with acrylics. I also wanted to add some no-fire snow to the windows, but when I opened the bottle I had at home at 9:30 on Saturday night, it was all dried out! :( I put a little "white magic" glitter on the sills instead. :D I was pretty pleased with the entire thing. When you light it, there is a little flame bulb inside and it had a nice flicker with out the flame.
Then there is nothing like waiting until the very last minute to make a bunch of ornaments... I worked on these all night and finished them up with the ribbon in the morning. You can see how I wrapped them in the penguin pic, just little treat bags tied with curling ribbon.
They don't look like a lot of work, but it did take quite a while. The green clay was textured with a snowflake sheet and then cut with a cookie cutter. Oh how I love thee, cookie cutters. Then I dusted the green clay with a dark green/gold mica powder.
I cut the garland with a wavy blade and used a little cirle punch for the balls. The ladies really liked them and I think they are getting spoiled and thinking they will get one every year.
