[identity profile] sillybeaniebear.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
Sorry for my first post being text only, but I'm in need of some advice if anyone has experience with these.

Money is very tight right now and I'm wanting to make cheap, but durable and personalized christmas ornaments for stocking stuffers. I found a recipe for "bakers clay" but I am a bit leary of it. I don't want these things to weigh a ton, nor do I want them to be extremely fragile. I figure I can cut the weight by reducing the recommended thickness a little and trying to keep them from being too large.

After baking them I know I need to seal them, but I am unsure of what to use. I don't want anything that will end up ruining them. Also, should I seal, paint then seal again or just wait until I am done to do any sealing? (am I making sense? :/) Also what kind of paint would anyone suggest? I'm going to have to buy several colors so if I can buy things in cheaper sets that would be ideal.

One final question, and probably the biggest one. One of the ornaments I want to make is a $1,000 or $100 bill. I found a picture of the front and back of one online and I would like to get it printed... alas, I have no printer. I was thinking of throwing it on a disk or our compact flash card and taking it to Kinkos and having it printed out, but I'm unsure of whether or not they'll allow me to do it. I have no friends nearby with the ability to print it out for me either. If worse comes to worse I could print it on purple paper since purple is her favorite color, but I would like it to stay the original colors if at all possible. I'd also be willing to edit the picture a little so it doesn't look so real (i.e. "United States of Michelle" or something along those lines) if I could find a font that matched.

Questions review:
1. Does anyone have any experience with "bakers clay"... and if so, is it durable?
2. What should I use to seal it and what kinds of paint?
3. Does anyone have any experience with printing out money? (I'm thinking I should probably scrap the money idea, but I'm at a loss for an ornament to make for her in it's place.)
