I'm about to have a crochet melt down.

I wanted to make slippers for my mother for christmas. I wanted something poofy and cozy, opposed to the equivilent of a thick frilly sock. So I tackled this pattern: I used the general structure but decided to knick the cow portion of the slipper and make it something a little more grown up (though the cow is freaking adorable.)

Except... Either I'm having a major brain fart, or this is a terrible pattern. I tend to let a pattern guide me, and I don't go strictly off of it. But right now my brain is shut off entirely. I've got stress up the wazoo and I wanted a simple project I wouldn't have to think about. ...Except this just is not working.

If you crocheters out there would be so kind as to take a peek at the pattern for me, and tell me if I've interpreted this wrong:

From snout to "continue in this manner" * Snout: With B, ch 2.

* 1st rnd: (RS). 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.

* 2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.

* 3rd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. * 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc.

* 4th rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. * 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * to last 2 sc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 24 sc.

* Slipper: With MC, RS of Snout facing, join with sl st to top of snout.

* 1st row: Working into back loops only, 1 sc in 1st sc. * 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 36 sc. Turn.

* Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Rep from * to last 5 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of last 4 sc. Turn.

* Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 9 sc. Rep from * to last 6 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of last 5 sc. Turn.

* Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 10 sc. Rep from * to last 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of last 6 sc. Turn.

* Continue in this manner, inc 4 sts evenly spaced in every row until there are 64 sts in row. Continue even in sc until work from beg measures 10 ½ ins (27 cm), ending with RS facing for next row.
Though it doesn't specify to join, you're working in rounds, so it kind of goes without saying. And this is the toe, where the cow face would go, so yeah, this was all joined. I got through this easily, and was lead to * Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. *Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.

* Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. *Sc2tog over next 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.

* Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. *Sc2tog over next 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. Continue in this manner, dec 10 sts evenly spaced in every row until there are 4 sts in row. Fasten off. (Heel). .. but this calls for no slit in the top of the slipper, to allow the foot in. So I figured it was a forgotten thing, and added it myself. But this whole last section turned out to be roughly 4 inches dramatically decreasing. ... So there is four inches to put your foot in? I know what I could do, if I decided to recreate this stupid ass project, to get it right. But I'm wondering HOW the hell I ended up with what I did. Bad pattern, or bad crocheting sense on my part? Not sure why, but I am curious to know.

Now I'm off to rip apart the failed slipper and make my own freaking pattern.

Who knew fiber and a hook could inspire rage?
