This was an X-mas gift for one of my friends. It's based on his artwork (lots of pen and ink skulls and stars and such with bright, bold colors). The pieces are made of plaster, cast in latex molds from clay originals. I realize plaster isn't the best material for such a thing, but most of the pieces are reinforced with finishing brads (dropped inside the mold while the plaster was setting up), and seem to be sturdy enough for standard play.
The syringes have needles now (finishing brads glued into the front).
The board measures 12"X 12", and the kings are approximately 5" tall.
I also felted the inside of an old slide carousel carrying case to store everything in so it's nice and portable.
I don't play chess myself, and I think I switched the order of the knights and bishops for the photos. Unfortunately, by the time I realized my mistake, it had already been packed and shipped. Oh well. I am in the process of making another one with a man vs. machine theme. Maybe I will actually get it right for that one :p
