These are the books I made for use in the [livejournal.com profile] embodiment project, which is all about journaling daily for a year. Mine are going to be art based. I made 12 cahier style books, sewn together with 16 pages, leaving myself with one side of a page for every day of the month.

I looked in the memories, but what was in there just confused me.

How do you add fringe to the bottom of a scarf?
[identity profile] margs1998.livejournal.com
I've knitted scarves, washcloths and hats -- lots of styles and stitches but my gramma used to knit these great thick socks for slippers. I recently came across this pattern and worked to make my own!

Enjoy! )

I seeing a link here to a site where you can upload a picture, and it will convert it into a knitting chart for you. I had it bookmarked, but due to a horrible reformatting incident, it has been lost.

Does anyone have the link? Also, if we manage to relocate the site, could we ad this to the memories?

I am going to make myself a messenger bag. I was wondering if anyone had tips/suggestions/patterns/tutorials? Especially as I am a guy (meaning that an ladies sized bag will be... less fitting).

Also, working with old leather belts... I have a Janome sewing machine (I have no idea of the model, it's my moms and she's had it for a number of years), for all I know it's a pretty good workhorse, but is it safe to try sewing a leather strap onto a bag?

I checked the memories, but I didn't really find anything for my particular desired method.
I have this tool called the "Creative Versa-Tool." Basically I plug it in, it heats up, and I can do a bunch of stuff with it. It has a bunch of different tips that can be used for stenciling, sautering, molding, etc.
It has one point for transferring images.
I printed out a picture, photocopied it, taped it to a shirt and then ran the heated tip over the image. However, nothing happened.
Do I need a certain kind of paper? Or is there anything I am doing wrong? Is it possible that my "tool" just sucks?
Thanks!

i recently inherited my grandmother's sewing materials, and in it i found some interesting fabric.  i was wondering if anyone had some nifty bag ideas, especially ones that are in the book-bag style, because right now my messenger bag is killing me.  i'd also like any other ideas that i could use because i have A LOT of this fabric.  i also found lace too, if that helps, but i didnt take a picture of it.  thank you!!

Ok.. typically I post pictures and such, but I have a decor question. I'm posting it here because it involves a craft and I'm wondering if you all my have some interesting input.

I desperately want to tile the backsplash around my counter/oven area. Problem is, I rent. Now I do believe that my landlord *may* let me do this the right way (making it fairly permanant) but because I'm planning on using colors that others may not like I don't really want to make it that way.

My cousin has gorgeous cherry red glass tile behind her stove, which I adore and want to steal. Since this wouldnt work well (for the reasons above) I was thinking that perhaps I could make wooden panels and set the tile into it and screw it to the wall. (much easier to fix later when we move) I figured I'd make wooden panels that fit exactly to the backsplash and tile them so it would look like I've tiled the wall.. my husband believes that the tile would make the panels too heavy, and between the weight and the fact that it will be near heat/water, they may warp and fall off. My second idea is to make the same panels, but to decoupage squares of cardboard with a nice shiny red paper (maybe use foil too) onto the panels and make a faux tiled wall.

I was wondering if anyone has done this, or has any comments/suggestions about doing so. I'm thinking that the decoupage idea holds merit simply because they'll be much lighter, but also because they'll be much less expensive.. but they may warp fairly badly.

Thanks >^^

Chess set

This was an X-mas gift for one of my friends. It's based on his artwork (lots of pen and ink skulls and stars and such with bright, bold colors). The pieces are made of plaster, cast in latex molds from clay originals. I realize plaster isn't the best material for such a thing, but most of the pieces are reinforced with finishing brads (dropped inside the mold while the plaster was setting up), and seem to be sturdy enough for standard play.

You can find more photos here )

The syringes have needles now (finishing brads glued into the front).
The board measures 12"X 12", and the kings are approximately 5" tall.
I also felted the inside of an old slide carousel carrying case to store everything in so it's nice and portable.

I don't play chess myself, and I think I switched the order of the knights and bishops for the photos. Unfortunately, by the time I realized my mistake, it had already been packed and shipped. Oh well. I am in the process of making another one with a man vs. machine theme. Maybe I will actually get it right for that one :p

The cats have already mangled the catnip fishies they got for Christmas, so I made new ones today.

I told you I'd be back after Christmas! :D

I had all these different fabrics left over from previous craft things, so I decided to make purses out of all of it! These were my first attempts at lining, also. My cell phone is in the pictures under the cut to give an idea of size. ^^ And I'm not done with this purses; I haven't added closures or straps yet. These aren't perfect; I don't sew often. But, I'm getting better!

Whew! Okay, I have a question: what kind of closures & straps should I do? I have a few ideas, but I want to know what you all think. ^^

Hey everyone....This is my first actual post here. Got a little digital camera for X-mas, so I'm gonna put it to some good use! HA!

Nothing too crafty here, just some bored drawings I did. Putting together a photo/drawing album for my BF.

I do have a question though...anyone got some tips on binding... i.e. binding with needle and thread-sewing the binding? Thanx in advance!!
