Pregnancy Journal and Crocheted blanket

Hey there. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make a really nice pregnancy journal. I've been racking my brain and nothing I come up with seems like it would work or look very nice.

I am also trying to crochet a blanket for my baby and I am having some issues. The loops are quite loose and when I tighten it on up I can't seem to get my needle on through. Any suggestions?
