I'm making my boyfriend a t-shirt quilt/no-sew tie blanket for his birthday. I want to make the blanket a decent size (pref. a king size), but I don't think I have enough shirts. So, I know that I can add a blank square in between each shirt to give it the "checkered" look, but is there a way I can add lyrics to the plain squares, other than using fabric markers/fabric glue or anything close?

I thought about transfers, but I have yet to see a transfer on a black shirt that looked semi-decent.
