binder decoration?

I have a ton of these really boring really plain plastic-y binders that I use for my classes

I really want to decoupage some fabric [or some other similar technique] to them but I'm not sure if it would work on the material of the binder.

Anyone have experience?
Or any other ideas to make them more interesting?
I'm up for anything but stickers. :]
